With the aim of improving the quality of doctorates and the conditions for young academics, the universities in Lower Saxony have developed guidelines together with the Ministry of Science of Lower Saxony which, among other things, are intended to guarantee greater transparency and commitment in doctoral procedures and facilitate cooperative doctorates.
Clausthal University of Technology is planning the long-term implementation of instruments for the further development of doctoral supervision for
- interdisciplinary and cross-faculty promotion of the quality of doctorates,

The information brochure "Doing a doctorate in Clausthal" provides information about the basic process of a doctorate at Clausthal University of Technology and is intended to give international doctoral candidates in particular an insight into doctoral procedures and provide assistance with contact options. Further documents, which are made available on the Graduate Academy website, provide information on national standards and recommendations for the organization of doctoral studies (e.g. Guidelines for quality assurance in doctoral procedures from the State University Conference and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, "Gemeinsam die Promotion gestalten - Handlungsempfehlungen für Promovierende/ Betreuende" (Shaping the doctorate together - recommendations for action for doctoral candidates/supervisors ) from the doctoral quality circle). The documents "Doctoral Progress Report" and "Guidelines for the Procedure of Supervision Meetings/Annual Meetings" are intended to provide guidance and support for structuring the doctoral project and individual elements.
- Clausthal University of Technology enables newly appointed professors, but also in particular junior research group leaders and experienced junior researchers who are significantly involved in the supervision of doctoral candidates, to participate in further training measures to further develop their own good and quality-assured supervision as part of an onboarding program. These can include further training measures such as workshops, but also events with experience reports from experienced professors.
- The Graduate Academy advises and supports researchers and research groups in submitting applications within the framework of structured and coordinated funding programs.
